Bio:
Eugène de Sala (1899–1987), born Osvald Lykkeberg Salomonsen in Randers, was a Danish self-taught painter and graphic artist often regarded as one of the earliest introducers of avant-garde art in Denmark. During the 1920s and 1930s he worked with modern artistic movements inspired by Paris and Berlin, including cubism, dada and later surrealist tendencies. De Sala became known for his radical artistic persona and provocative role within the Danish art scene, actively challenging traditional aesthetics. After a period of relative obscurity in the mid-twentieth century, interest in his work revived in the 1970s, and today his works are represented in collections including the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst).
